The house is insulated and drywall is up!

So excited to see this process begin and take shape. Now we can definitely feel the size of the rooms and get a real feel for the house’s layout. Ted and I get more and more excited for our home each time we enter it, as it seems like something new occurs every week.

This week was no exception.

This week the drywall began. All that mudding and sanding. Glad it isn’t me doing it…I had my share of that in the old house’s remodeling. Not sure I’m ready to go down that dusty path again so soon.

The deck was also put in this week as well, which wasn’t expected at all. And we got a little surprise on the deck (more on that later).

And now, the tour of our home – the drywall edition.

Deck

Ted and I got a nice little surprise where the deck is concerned. We originally wanted to do composite decking because … well… it’s awesome. There were just so many pros vs cons for composite decking material over cedar. Then we saw the price tag of composite vs cedar. OUCH. So needless to say we went with the cedar. We figured we’d just stain it and treat it when we needed to in order to make it last a really long time.

Back to that little surprise. Well last night we pulled up to the house and SURPRISE the deck was started (we had no idea that was going to go in so soon). And SURPRISE it wasn’t done in cedar. It was done in composite. After Ted spoke to our builder today, it appears that the lumber yard brought the wrong material. Our builder said “congratulations, you just got a free upgrade”. Woo Hoo! Too bad they didn’t mess up and give us grey instead of red though. Oh well…Beggars can’t be choosers. I will take it.

Our friends Josh and Shawna came over last night to check out the house and to get measurements for flooring (nice to have friends in the field). So they helped us break in the deck with some beers and socializing. It was great! Can’t wait to get a rail up and stairs (another job that Ted and I will be doing after we move in) so that we can do it more often!!

We are definitely making progress. Rumor is we’ll be seeing the garage/driveway poured soon. As well as stone and siding will be going in and hopefully by the end of the month we’ll have trim and cabinets. Fingers crossed.

Tomorrow our tile that we picked out is being delivered and Ted and I are going to roll up our sleeves and start laying cement board to get ready to tile as soon as we get the okay. And my Master Plumber will be installing the septic tank next week.

So stay tuned…more to come!!

I couldn’t resist taking this shot of the sunset out of our front porch. Can’t wait to see this more often!

Dogs approve

It’s been a few weeks since we brought the dogs out to the house. It’s been so muddy, so unfortunately, they had to stay at the apartment. They are a little too wild at the lot house and I knew they’d come home a muddy mess if we took them, so instead of giving them countless baths, we waited to bring them back out. It’s important to us to bring them when we go out so they start getting use to the area and the house.
When we brought them out to the house, it was as if they KNEW it was their house. When I brought them out, Ted was in the basement finishing up some plumbing. And they went crazy in the house! They ran up and down, down and up the stairs. They ran through the studs and all around the house, taking in and smelling everything. It was so fun to watch their excitement. Who needs a dog park when you can just bring them to your new home and they can run their energy out there???
