All Moved In!!

It's been a CRAZY month this month, so I apologize for the delay on this post.

The month began with Ted getting sick, then I got sick and then we had to say goodbye to my grandfather after he suffered from a stroke. To add salt to the wounds, we ran into issues with our loan 24 hours before we closed, so it's been a crazy and hectic and crappy month so to say.

BUT we are moved into our house and that trumps it all of the negative things we’ve been dealt with this month.

We love, love, love our house. Absolutely love it. And it’s finally OURS! It was the greatest feeling in the world to sign those papers and officially become home owners again.

Our walk through with our builder was Tuesday, January 14th. We didn’t find too many things for them to fix (just a few paint touch ups that were needed and that was about it). And our builder even gave us a present:

They gave us roses, a bottle of champagne, a bottle of wine, wine glasses, bottle opener and stopper, koozies, t-shirts and cookies! And of course, the home warranty.

And we had a visitor that night, as well. My adorable nephew, Hayes, my sister, Laura and brother-in-law Kellen.

He was pretty excited about the new house…probably because it was empty and there was plenty of room to run!!!

I love how the house turned out. And that all of our choices were brought together and they work well together!! I was really nervous about whether or not our selections would look okay and they turned out better than I could have hoped for.

So for your viewing pleasure - - - - Our New Home!!!

The basement hasn’t changed at all so I didn’t take pictures of that. We hope to start finishing it soon for even more room (Not that we know what to do with more room at this point).

Now for the dogs…

The dogs love the house. They went nuts when they got here because there was so much room to run and play. Rainey looked a little scared and lost at first, but the minute we brought her dog pillow into the house, she was on cloud nine! Rosco loves running up and down the stairs.

Our first sunrise at the new house. The sunrise and sunsets are gorgeous out here. Not sure if they always have been or if it’s because I can now SEE them to appreciate them. I love how peaceful it is out here and I can’t wait to get all settled in.

If you are ever in our neck of the woods, stop out and say hello. We’d love to see you.

Thank you so much for all of your kind words and support during this whole process. I’m so thankful for our family and friends who have stood by us and encouraged us when we felt like giving up, lending a shoulder to cry on when things got tough, listening to us vent when we thought we’d go mad and for all the help making this dream become a reality. We love you!

Let there be light!

The Younker house has lights! And countertops! And ceiling fans! EEK!!!

The house is really coming together and it’s hard to believe that in two weeks it will be ours. To live in. To drive from/to every day to/from work. To clean. To decorate. To entertain in. To make new memories in.

And we can not wait.

It’s been a long ten months in our tiny, cramped apartment and there have been times we did not think we would make it to the end – but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?!?!

Without further ado, I present our home complete with lights, ceiling fans and counter tops!

All rooms have the same counters (Caledonia) except the hall bathroom (Cooper Brown). I’m very happy with how they all turned out.

Our huge island. I can not wait to cook in the kitchen and use this! Coming from this tiny apartment, the space I will be gaining is so exciting to me. I think Ted is ready for me to bake some cookies in our new kitchen :)

Up next on the list: Ted is going to finish the plumbing that needs to be done (master shower, laundry room and toilets!!) this weekend. Carpet is going in as we speak. And then the finishing touches will be made next week. And then it’ll be the cleaning crew, final walk through and CLOSING!!! And then the keys will be in our hands. WOO HOO!!

Until next time,

All about stone

Sorry it’s been a while since the last update. The holidays snuck up on us somehow and here we are into the new year!! How did that happen!?!?

Progress has continued in the Younker home, to include the stone (exterior and interior)  being completed. The countertops are also in, but waiting on one piece to be installed. What a difference it makes. We love our countertops. And the exterior stone. And the fireplace stone. We love it all.

I felt so bad for the guys putting our stone on the house. Nothing like having some warm-ish weather of 40+ degrees (yes, this is warm for us Nebraskans when it’s December) when they started to it plunging to a freezing 4 degrees by the time they finished. At least they were able to get out of the cold air when they put our interior stone on the fireplace.

I love love love the exterior stone. It looks fantastic.

Here is the before: IMG_0519

And the after:

Here are a few pictures of the process as the stone was being installed: IMG_0562

The front of the house..doesn’t it look pretty!!! :)

Here is a close up of the pillars. And our newly painted front door..I LOVE the black! I think it looks so different and I love it.

And here is the fireplace. I think it turned out great and I can’t wait to sit in front of this bad boy during our cold winter nights and warm up next to the fire! I’ve never had a fireplace before (well one that worked) so this is really exciting to me. I’ve always wanted a fireplace in my home and now I have it!

Up next – carpet, countertops being finished (one piece to install and the laundry room sink cut out) and then the trim carpenter is returning to finish up a few loose ends. Oh and my handy husband will be finishing up all the plumbing in the house. I can’t wait to have indoor plumbing and not have to use that cold porta-potty outside. First world problems, I know :)

And the biggest news of all - We are closing January 16th on our home! Two weeks from today. I can not wait. Ted and I are so excited to begin our lives in this home and create new memories in it!
